Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital Named Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group Elite Award Recognizes Excellence in Quality and Safety
PHILADEPHIA, PA, December 7, 2023
The Leapfrog Group has announced that nine hospitals in Pennsylvania have been named to its 2023 national list of Top Hospitals, including Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital in East Norriton receiving one of Leapfrog’s Top Teaching Hospital Awards. The elite award is one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive in patient safety and quality. The winning facilities will be officially recognized today as part of Leapfrog’s 2023 Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner.

The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health (GPBCH) is a Leapfrog Regional Leader in southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, working with employer purchasers, payors, providers and patients to drive safe, high-quality health care.

“We congratulate the entire team at Einstein Montgomery Medical Center for earning this recognition,” said Neil Goldfarb, president and CEO of Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health. “While there has been significant media coverage of late regarding quality and safety concerns in some of our region's hospitals -- rightly so -- it's also important to acknowledge those provider organizations that successfully devote energy and resources to reducing errors and improving patient outcomes.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that rates hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) on how well they protect patients from errors and infections, as well as the effectiveness of procedures and other care they provide. A total of 132 hospitals were selected as Top Hospitals, including: 8 Top Children’s Hospitals, 34 Top General Hospitals, 15 Top Rural Hospitals and 75 Top Teaching Hospitals. A total of 27 ASCs were selected as Top ASCs.

“The Top Hospital Awards are the toughest and most competitive awards in the industry, so Pennsylvania should be very proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health has been a strong leader working with local hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to promote and recognize excellence in the Greater Philadelphia region.”

The Top Hospital award is given to teaching, general, rural and children's hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals Methodology. This includes infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other standards.
