Leapfrog Fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grades Released
Administered on behalf of employers and other purchasers, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the nation’s only rating system focused entirely on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. It is an independent, nonprofit grading system that assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” and “F” letter grades to general acute-care hospitals in the United States. Of more than 2,600 hospitals graded for fall 2018, 32 percent (823) earned an “A,” 24 percent (706) earned a “B,” 37 percent (933) a “C,” 6 percent (167) a “D” and just under 1 percent (10) an “F”. Impressively, 42 hospitals nationwide have achieved an “A” in every grading update since the launch of the Safety Grade in spring 2012.

The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health serves as the Leapfrog Regional Leader for southeastern Pennsylvania (five-county Philadelphia area) and Delaware, where 46 hospitals received a 2018 Fall Safety Grade. 22 percent earned (10) and “A”, 24 percent (11) a “B”, 50 percent (23) a “C”, and 4 percent (2) a “D”.
