Lorna is an accomplished registered nurse who is committed to improving the health and welfare of SEPTA employees, passengers, and surrounding communities. She began her multifaceted career path with SEPTA in January 1995. Nothing about Haley’s career has been typical. She held several leadership positions as well as a few non-traditional positions at SEPTA spanning over 26 years.

Lorna started off as a bus operator, she sought out the training to become SEPTA’s first and only female in three different non-traditional positions. She spent most of her SEPTA tenure working in the Electrical, Maintenance, & Construction Division (EM&C).

Lorna Haley attended Thomas Jefferson University, School of Nursing, obtaining her nursing degree in 2008 while maintaining her full-time non-traditional role at SEPTA. She began her nursing career in the field of pediatrics. Haley utilized her pediatric skills to land part-time positions as a case manager for a couple of home healthcare agencies, Visiting Nurse Group (VNG) and Agency with a Caring Touch (ACT). She continued her part-time service as a case manager with ACT while full-time at SEPTA in EM&C until the perfect nursing opportunity became available.

In August 2017, she became SEPTA’s second Occupational Health Nurse (OHN). As the OHN, Haley is responsible for coordinating the Health & Wellness Programs as well as manage all of SEPTA’s Monitoring and Medical Surveillance Programs. One of her greatest achievements is implementing the Sleep Apnea Monitoring Program at SEPTA. This program helps identify those safety-sensitive SEPTA employees at high risk of sleep disorders. Lorna also briefly served as an Advisory Board Member for the University of Pennsylvania Prevention Research Center at the beginning of her nursing career within SEPTA.

Haley prides herself on facilitating SEPTA’s COVID-19 Testing Program. The 12-month, on-site COVID-19 Testing Program helped mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 throughout the Authority by keeping SEPTA employees aware of their COVID-19 status and placing positive individuals in quarantine.

Haley loves being a mother of two adult children. She enjoys traveling and she likes to roller-skate. Lorna lives by motto, “Knowledge is Power!”
